Nutrition for lactating mothers
A diet loaded with nutrients is what a lactating mother requires. Ideally, a breast feeding mother requires 500 extra calories a day to meet the the nutritional requirements. Moreover, oral supplements of vitamins and minerals are also advisable. Also, increase your intake of fluids, as you may need it to keep yourself hydrated. Water, fruits and vegetable juice, soups and milk can do the needful.
It is believed that food with strong odour or flavour may change the taste of the milk. However, this will hardly affect the baby. In case you observe any change in feeding habits of the baby, or if it acts fussy, discuss the matter with your paediatrician.
