Myth: Only those women with a family history of breast cancer are at risk of acquiring the disease
Fact: According to several researches, 70-80% of women who suffer from breast cancer have no family history of the disease. However, all those who have a first degree relative i.e. grandmother, mother or sister in the family diagnosed with breast cancer, pose double the chance of contriving the disease. Hence, they should go for mammogram five years earlier than they would otherwise begin their yearly check-up for breast cancer. The ideal age to go for yearly mammogram is 40 years.
